.
Generally speaking, having fewer devices to carry is a good thing.
To be fair, I think Apple turn-by-turn GPS can probably replace my old
Garmin.
Simplicity.

charge as well.
For your case, it seems 3G data and display that drained your battery very
quickly.

GPS does not need a lot of 3G data and I doubt it pulling data constantly.
However, internet radio needs data connection on.

On my 4S, Waze only consumes 18% after 35 min with 3G data.
