o******s 发帖数: 1364 | 1 I need suggestions for field target/broad head weight selection. Currently I
'm using 125 grain heads as suggested by a local archery shop, but the
arrows drop significantly, especially for my wife's bow with small draw
weight.
So here's the set up:
Mine: DW 60lb, DL 28in, Redhead X5, 400 spine, 4" vane.
My wife's: DW 30lb, DL 24in, Redhead Max2 250 spine, 4" vane.
I think 100 grain is probably right for me (actually I don't see much drop
on my set up with 125 at 40 yard), but I don't know how to select the weight
for my wife's bow.
Thanks a lot! | c*******r 发帖数: 253 | 2 Heavy broadhead means less energy lost during fly and more damage when
hitting the target.
But there is alway a trade off between initial fps and final impact. So it
kind of depends on how far you wanna shoot you game.
If you don`t hunt, lighter and thinner arrow is alway better. | c*******r 发帖数: 253 | 3 80 or 75 grain tip might be better for a 30lbs bow.
But I never heard about anything lower | g**********u 发帖数: 86 | 4 Your wife's arrow seems too stiff for me.
Your arrow's spine is reasonable.
But, how come with lower DW, your wife's arrow is stiffer than yours?
I would think at least 600-700 spine for a 30 lb Draw.

| o******s 发帖数: 1364 | 5 I thought the higher the spine number the stiffer the arrow. I was basically
selecting from the chart provided by red head, which doesn't list DL 24"
but for 25" all DW are 250, and then 350 was used on higher DW and DL. I
might be wrong in that selection since I ordered these arrows online when
they went on sale so I didn't consult with other people. I do have both 250
and 350 though.

| o******s 发帖数: 1364 | 6 Ah, so 125 is probably fine for me then. I was just seeing a lot of drop in
my wife's arrow, and since the hunting person at BPS said I should use 100
grain, and I've seen people mentioning that on this board as well, so I
thought I might need to lower it.
I'm more interested in game but for the moment I'm just learning to get good
grouping at 30+ yards on targets.

| c*******r 发帖数: 1243 | 7 100gr is more popular as I know. I use 100gr to hunt. Heavier arrow
preserves more energy than a lighter one at the same distance, but you lose
the speed. My bow is 65lb. |
