Got him. A small. Buck. Tracked 3 hrs. Another hunter helped. Neck shot.
Last sec he turned he walked 2miles. I am getting deer cart now.
Will upload pic when get home.
First bow kill. Small buck should be tasty.

Shot a doe. Tracking. Arrow is with her. But found blood trail. Wait for
30min.
Heard big stump when she ran away. Shot was 24 yd. first blood trail on
leaves about 7yd away. I am waiting.
Waited 30min. First blood trail about 4 yd away. She ran away up to a burm.
I followed the blood trail to the forest edge. Couldn't find it anymore.
Walked out of woods and saw all grass land dotted with small shrubs. Couldn'
t see blood trail anymore. I zigzagged along the grass land. One deer was
bedding there. She/he jumped up and dashed away. I would have shoot him too
if given time.
2 hrs passed. I wanted to giving up.
I came crossing back to the original trail and back across the railway. Saw
another hunter, who also shot one too but couldn't see any blood trail. The
name is Dennis. I asked if he would help. He said he had 23 years hunting
experience, and also had lost some deer on the grassland as well. He agreed
to see my blood trail. Man he was really good, quickly discover more blodd
trail.
The first blood splatter was thumb size. The blood drops indicated the
direction. But the drops became smaller and smaller. Dennis was really good.
He was able to trace way deep into the grassland. Grasses were thick, and
the blood color hard to distinguish because some leaves were red too and
grass blades were thin. We traced another hour, and covered two miles. The
trail was a big circle loop. The deer came back from the grassland into the
woods. The blood pool were getting bigger. We wondered how could a deer
survive that long.
The deer came back into the woods and crossed the rail way and into woods on
the other side. She just kept going and eventually came out of woods and
laid down in a small bush.
If it were not Dennis, I would never able to track it. I offered to share
half of the meat. He said he still had seven in his freezer.
He it was, a small buck, about 90 lb, not even button buck. Should be very
tasty. He was shot at the neck. He must have turned when I released the
arrow. Dennis mentioned it was hard to spot and stalk because deer was alert
and can easily jump the string. I could have waited more, but I thought he
was ready to leave. He was behind some twigs, I shot him across the railway
from a slightly higher gound point.
But anyway, I got him. A small buck, and my daughters should be happy to
have fresh venison for dinner.
Lessons:
1. Extra careful when spot and stalk
2. Wait until deer is relaxed, then shoot. Only within 30 yd.
3. After shot, wait at least one hour if blood splatter not big enough.

like some kind fungus. If you cut it open, spongy tissue inside. |

This is a "hard" shot. But glad you retrieve the deer finally. Your first
bow kill? The first is always forgettable.
It has been approved that the "double-lung" is the most effective place you
want to hit. I prefer a little bit forward so that my arrow can hit the
heart or cut main artery. In this way, a deer usually cannot run more than
50 yards. |

发帖数: 401 | 7 Well that's where I aimed. I don't think my shot was that sloppy. I average
about 4" grouping at 30yd. I should check zero in the field to make any
final adjustment.
The deer probably jumped in this shot. But neck shot? Really? Could be twig
deflecting.

发帖数: 1243 | 8 While, did the deer was facing to you or at least looking to your direction?
It happened to me last season. I shot a deer which was facing to my 8 o'
clock. I was on a tree stand. I aimed its heart and let arrow go, the deer
must rise its hear and tried to jump. Finally the arrow landed on the middle
of its skull and went through, stopped on its shoulder pointing to the
heart. Luckily the deer only ran 60-80 yards and down.
In my opinion, 4" group at 30 yards is not enough. There are too many
variations in the real hunt. The tighter group is more tolerant in the field.
What's your bow setup? And what band of your arrow?

发帖数: 401 | 9 The button buck body was facing about 10 oclk position 24 yd away. Funnily
about his head because obscured by twig and leaves. I aimed at just behind
his front leg.
Since it was spot and stalk, he was aware of my presence. We stared at each
other for good 10min.
If you saw my post at qiangyou, I took a picture from his view point. I was
just behind the three tree trunks.
I thought 4" grouping should be ok at 30yd. Still lot of room to improve.
after i got back, I tried it again with broadhead about 3 inches higher than
fieldpoint. The range I shoot only allows fieldpoint. I will need to rezero
all pins for the exact broadhead I use.
My arrows are 26" abo length, carbon express predator II, 4" straight vane,
g5 outdoor Montec 1 1/16 cut broadhead.
The button buck is smaller than the button buck I got last year. Deer are
quite big in illinoise because of plenty food. Let me know ifever you visit
here.

发帖数: 457 | 11 不错。4” grouping应该足够了，问题是实地的时候有时会犯平时不犯的小错误，需要
多练不同坐姿，角度的grouping
