a little bit of experience with painting in my early years. To my knowledge,
poeple almost use canvass exclusively for oil painting. But I did see a woman
pencil-drawl a huge picture in one art show and she used canvass. You might
already notice the surface of a canvass is grainlly uneven and that can hurt
your flow of your stroke. So when people paint a painting( oil painting), what
