d*****n 发帖数: 47 | 1 I purchased brand new 2013 Honda Accord LX Sedan 25 days ago. However, I got
a flat tire yesterday. I talked to my dealer and they told me that it is
related to the bumper we made and they do not cover the tire. I do not know
if it is true but long story short. Anyway, dealer wants me to pay $160 for
a new tire.
I checked the price online, for $160 I probably could get a better tire and
better warranty from discount tire or Costco. I know if I buy it from dealer
, it will probably the same OEM one, Firestone Affinity and there is no any
coverage for road damage. If I buy from discount tire or Costco, at that
price I could get a much better tire and much better warranty.
However, today when I search online it looks like that 2013 honda Accord LX
might have some tire sensors. I know there is low tire pressure light on my
car flashing right now. But I am not sure where the tire sensor is. When we
change the tire in discount tire, will it also affect the tire sensor? Does
the tire sensor need to be reset or reinserted to the new tire? How big is
chance the discount tire or Costco will mess up the tire sensor? Or should I
go to dealer or should I go to discount tire or costco?
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. | m*****3 发帖数: 13701 | 2 Actually if you buy a tire from your Honda dealer, this tire will be under
new tire warranty (OEM tires are not unless you pay extra for the coverage
at the time when you buy the car).
Do not understand what " it is related to the bumper we made" means.
The TMPS sensor is at where your tire valve is, it is inside of the wheel
and just a little bigger than a regular valve, you do not see any difference
from outside. It has a battery and sends out a fixed frequency signal to
the car's computer at certain intervals.
When the tire tech dismounts your damaged tire and replaces it with a new
one, he may or may not touch/damage the sensor. Usually when you go to the
shop, they will let you know, and if the sensor is damaged during
installation, you will be charged extra for a new one. I think Costco does
NOT charge extra, but please verify with them. I do not think the sensor
needs to be reset, cars have the ability to "learn" TPMS signal. In your
case, as long as the original sensor is fine, it is already memorized by
your car's computer. Sometimes the tech wants to trick you into this,
charges you some money to "reset", just ignore it.
Price-wise, since you are only getting one tire, there will be very little
difference, because the discounts these shops have are usually only for 4
tires. Remember, shops usually charges ~$20 per tire installation fee.
Since the other 3 tires are practically brand-new, you had better get a new
tire from same manufacturer, save size, same everything.
Good luck! | d*****n 发帖数: 47 | 3 mmt2013,
Thank you very much for your long explanation. I lear a lot from you. Thanks
. | m*****3 发帖数: 13701 | 4 You are very welcome, I am a beginner too, but like to search online for
useful info. Enjoy your new car. | d*****n 发帖数: 47 | 5 I think it might be make more sense to have four SAME of tires on the car. | m*****3 发帖数: 13701 | 6 I am a bit confused, what I suggested was to get one new tire of the same
brand, same size, same tread, etc, and since your car is basically brand-new
, and you have only put (xyz how many?) miles on the other 3 tires, they
should be almost new, so just get one new tire, and your car will be brand-
new again. Do NOT waste your money to get 4 new tires, totally unnecessary.
Please post if you are confused by my words. Good luck!
One thing, Costco has very limited selection of tires actually, just
Michelin and 2 or 3 others I think. Call them to find out whether they have
your specific tire in stock, or you can probably order one and have it
delivered to your local Costco tire store, shipping should be free if they
have it at their warehouse. | d*****n 发帖数: 47 | 7 Hi mmt2013,
Actually I took your suggestion and decided to buy one OEM tire so that I
could have 4 same tires.
Since yesterday I talked to two Honda dealers and they gave me different
reasons why the tire is broken and warranty is not covered. The only same
thing they gave me is that the tire is unfixable and I need to buy a new one
.
I almost gave up today. But I tried to talk to my OEM tire provider -
Firestone as last try. To my surprise, after they checked the tire,
according to Firestone, they say they can not figure out why my tire is got
flat. In the end, Firestone gave me a brand new same tire free.
The only thing I learned from this experience is that do not trust
Dealership. At least one dealer, if not two, lies to me. Since the OEM
warranty actually comes from tire company - Firestone, dealers just want to
make money from me. They will always tell you your tires can not be covered
or cannot be fixed.
Thank you, mmt2013. thanks. | m*****3 发帖数: 13701 | 8 你太客气了。轮胎问题能这样解决太好了,祝贺祝贺!一切顺利! |
