CHICAGO (WLS) --
One person is charged with shooting at another car in a possible case of
road rage on the Dan Ryan Expressway Sunday night.
Dantrel Fuller, 21, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm,
Illinois State Police said.
Police said a Volvo SUV was traveling in the southbound left lane around 10:
20 p.m. Sunday when an Infiniti allegedly fired multiple shots at the Volvo.
As a result of the shooting, the Volvo sideswiped a Honda SUV near 79th
Street, forcing that vehicle to crash into a wall.
There were initial reports that the incident may have been preceded by a
case of road rage, but on Monday afternoon, state police said they are still
investigating a motive.
"This could have been way more serious, way more serious," said Kimberly
Stewart, whose husband Rodney Stewart was involved in the crash. He was
driving home from a softball game when he heard gunfire.
"As I heard the shots, I ducked down. When I ducked down, as I come back up,
I got hit. The car had ran into the back of me," said Rodney Stewart.
Stewart was hit a second time, apparently by that car fleeing the gunfire.
"I'm fishtailing through two lanes, then I get control of my car so I won't
run into nothing else, and then he hit my driver's side, and that's what
sent me into the wall," said Rodney Stewart.
After the car pulled off the highway, police apprehended Fuller and a female
passenger and both were taken into custody. Police say a firearm was
recovered near the scene.
Additional charges against Fuller are pending. He is due in bond court
Tuesday morning. | a******e
