Verband der Automobil Tuner (Association of Automobile Tuners, or VDAT) is
Germany’s domestic analog to the Specialty Equipment Market Association.
Made up of companies in the tuning industry, the consortium is backed by
German Federal Minister of Transport, and has been around for over a decade.
Each year, VDAT builds a custom police cruiser to promote safe vehicle
modification. Prior examples include everything from an AC Schnitzer BMW 4-
Series and C7 Corvette to a Brabus Mercedes and all-electric Mini. The VDAT
’s latest cop car creation? It’s based on a sixth-generation Ford Mustang
GT.

Dubbed “Wolf Wild 5.0,” and revealed at the 2016 Essen Motor Show, the car
comes from local Baden Württemberg tuning shop Wolf Racing. The techs
there kept performance modifications relatively mild; with exhaust work and
a tune, the 5.0-liter V8’s output climbs from the stock 421 hp to a stout
455 hp. Wolf claims that’s still good for a 4.3-second 0-62 mph time.
Changes to the chassis hardware and exterior are more dramatic. The police
Mustang rolls on unique 20-inch wheels and height-adjustable aftermarket
coilovers, sports a full bodykit, big rear spoiler, and, of course, has full
Polizei livery. Lights and sirens come from Hella, and the windows have
been covered in Securlux, a shatter-proof safety foil.

It looks the business, but this one won’t be chasing down speeders on the
Autobahn. VDAT says it’ll be using the muscle car as a promotional tool,
pushing its Tune It! Safe! initiative, and that’s smart. Because if there’
s one thing sure to catch a European enthusiast’s eye, it’s a badass
Mustang lighting up the cherries and revving up an American V8.
Well done, gents. Well done. |
