说需要更换tensioner。
请问一般是什么原因造成的Timing Chain Tensioner leak啊?和平时换机油的质量有
关系吗? |
s*****r 发帖数: 9 | 2 It is just an o-ring. If the leak is minor, I think you can live with it. It
is just age and heat. I believe it is an easy fix. Can you see the leak
yourself? Is there anything important that is under the leak that could get
contaminated? If it is just the floor, put some paper board on your garage
floor. If you have some belts or sensors under it, you may want to have the
o-ring replaced. |

timing belt/chain assembly apart?

s*****r 发帖数: 9 | 4 You are actually correct that the timing chain and tensioner are not
accessible without taking the valve cover off on most engines. TOYOTA made
the strange decision of making their timing chain tensioner accessible from
the outside. Not sure if they are using those form-in-place gaskets also for
the valve cover. Maybe they decided the valve cover gasket will last longer
than the tensioner.
I think the dealer is talking about a leak like this.

The timing-chain tensioner costs about $30 at autozone.
All you need is to replace the o-ring. If you can find a way to source the o
-ring, it is going to cost less than $5.
See a picture of the o-ring on the tensioner.

Alternatively, if you know the oil is only going to the floor, you do not
have to fix it. It will never be a catastrophic leak, you can just live with
it. I do not own a corolla, thus I do not know where the leaked oil is
going.
PS. I may have accidentally sent you a message. Please ignore.

9 | 6 To replace the o-ring the dealer has to take off the tensioner. Thus it is
actually easier for the dealer to replace the whole tensioner as he saves 2
minutes labor by not removing the o-ring from the old tensioner. LOL.
Plus they make more profit by selling a more expensive part.
My feeling is that you do not have to do anything. Just keep an eye on it.
I do see the serpentine belt around it. However, I am disoriented by the
photos and I can not tell which way is going down.
If you want to replace it, maybe consider how much the dealer is charging
for labor and for parts. If you pay $200 labor and the tensioner is $50. It
does not hurt to replace it anyway since you will need to pay labor again in
5 years if the tensioner fails.
If the labor is $100, the tensioner is $200, then just ask him to replace
the o-ring.
Dealer always charge the maximum labor allowed by the book for each job.
Honestly this is a 20 minutes job. The whole tensioner is worth $30 at
autozone. God knows how much the dealer wants for it.
This leak has nothing to do with oil. O-rings harden under heat with age.
The car takes 0w-20, right? All 0w-20 is full synthetic. Maybe some cheap
oil does not have much seal conditioner, but the effects of those
conditioners are minimal. It is actually difficult to get low quality oil if
you stick to 0w-20.

请问这是不是要价太高了?

s*****r 发帖数: 9 | 9 There is not much you can do with labor cost unless you find an independent
shop for this.
The dealer looks up a book, which lists the approved hours for each job.
They are not allowed to charge more than what is on the book.
The dealer generally charge up to the maximum.
The book accounts for more complex scenarios such as rusted on bolts.
I think it is reasonable if you want to fix it.
A BMW dealer once ask me $650 for a new battery. A Lexus dealer asks me $
600 for hood support struts. The struts cost $30 on amazon. 20 minutes labor
and a can of beer took care of it.
