突然发现还有rear differential and transfer case oil 要换？
之前从来都不知道
是不是该换油了？
还是当作不知道，直接开到烂再换车？

有些车貌似 transfer case 与 transmission 是连在一起的？
换transmission oil 时就直接都换了？
有些车却是分开的，要单独换 transfer case oil?
还有些车有front differential？ |

发帖数: 9 | 5 On the Lexus RX, the front differential and the transmission share oil.
The so called transfer case is actually a locking (pre 2009) or viscous
coupling (2009 or later) center differential.
I think the center and rear differentials are separate but does
not remember the details.
It is unlikely the center differential will be able to use transmission oil
since special additives are needed for the center differential to engage.
The RX AWD is a total joke. The pre 2009 is a two wheel drive (one front and
one back) and the later models are 1.5 wheel drive. Both front and rear
axles use open differentials. If one wheel spins, the other wheel completely
loses power. With the viscous coupling, no power is transferred to the rear
wheel if the front wheel is not spinning. Lexus put in a manual lock button
so that the rear wheel will get some pathetic power if the front wheel is
doing a (sharp) turn at very low speed.
Actually, Toyota makes a limited slip differential for the rear wheel, but
only
sell those cars in Russia. No north American car gets those better
differentials. People buy used Russian RX rear differentials on ebay and
replace the factory differential on the RX to improve off road traction.
I guess Japan does not snow much. The RX AWD is not in the same league as
any German AWDs. The GX does use limited slip differentials and is much
better off road.
