opposed to having someone teach you or give you all
the answers, but that is what engineering, especially
research, is all about. Engineering is inventing a
solution to a problem, where the only interesting
problems are where the solution is unknown. Life is
easy and boring when someone gives you the answer or
you look it up in the back of the book. The Apollo
engineers didn't have a previous one to copy off of.
