offensive advantage Cano brings in on 2B, it's very
easy to compensate by upgrading on 1B, DH or any one
of the 3 OF. On top of that, Cano has always been a
defensive liability, and he'll only get worse as
he approaches his real age of around 45.

I remember back in 2007 the Mariners are competitive.
Actually the first MLB game I saw on TV was Ichiro vs. Dice-K, and then 21
year-old King Felix almost threw a no-hitter (M's win 3-0)

how scary a team was with Big Unit, ARod and the Jr.
all in their prime led by Lou. Ironically, had Mariners
been willing to pay any ONE of those 3 a contract like
Cano's, they should have won at least one title.
It's wise to pay big money to super stars. What dooms
a team is paying the 2nd tier or the old farts a little
less than what the real super stars demand.
That's what you saw in 2007. Beltre and Sexson were
the typical examples. Those 2 combined certainly were
worse than ARod plus Russell Branyan, while costing
about the same. Actually, M's have routinely been
among top10 or even top5 on spending.
ps: M's also kept Bavasi, the worst MLB GM in history
for very long time.

When Boss Yamauchi（山内溥） passed away I saw comments that he didnot care
that much about the M's (never actually attended a game), that the front
people actually running the show has been terrible, and that they need a
clear of house from the very top.
Guess the front people really want to turn the public image around.
