From Howard Beck of the New York Times: "After going undrafted in 2010, Lin
signed a two-year deal with the Golden State Warriors. The second year
conveyed the early-Bird rights and the restricted free agent status. Those
rights would have disappeared had Lin become a free agent after the Warriors
waived him in early December. But the Houston Rockets claimed Lin off of
waivers, thus inheriting the early-Bird and restricted free agency status.
The benefits transferred to the Knicks when they claimed Lin off waivers on
Dec. 27, after Houston cut him."
Since the Knicks will have the option to match any offer Lin may receive in
free agency, it would seem there's a likely chance he'll be back in New York
beyond this season -- unless another team makes an outrageously high offer
New York passes on matching. |
