SAN ANTONIO - The Spurs flew back to San Antonio early Friday afternoon
after their heartbreaking loss to the Heat Thursday night in Game 7 of the
NBA Finals.
The team touched down at Landmark Aviation, in the 500 block of Sandau Road,
by San Antonio International Airport around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Hundreds of Spurs fans braved the hot afternoon sun to greet the team when
they arrived.

"We almost had it, (we just) missed a couple of baskets, that's all it was,"
said fan Juan Mancha on Friday afternoon. "Tears came out of my eyes, to be
honest with you."
But loss or not, hundreds of loyalists lined fences and streets to show
their team they were behind them.
"That shows how important they are to us because they know that we come here
, win or loss," said Matthew Rangel.
Judging by what they said, the team knows it, too.
Coach Pop and Manu Ginobili briefly addressed the crowd before joining the
rest of the team as they got in their cars to drive home.
"We didn't win it, we wish we could have brought it home for you, but we
gave it our best, and that's why you guys are the best because even in a
loss, you guys come out here," said Coach Gregg Popovich to the fans.
"We were really close, so close, it really hurts," said Spurs guard Manu
Ginobili. "But seeing you guys here and supporting us, it's really moving
for us, so I'm just going to say thank you."
Stopping to say a few words meant the world to fans waiting hours in summer
sun.
"I guess it just shows the class of the Spurs," said Stephen Sanchez. "We
saw last night, Tim, Pop, they embraced Lebron (and) Dwyane. I mean, they're
just a classy team."
The Spurs fell to the Miami Heat 95-88 Thursday night at the American
Airlines Arena in Miami. |
