到美國麻塞諸塞州諾桑普頓城的古葬地，憑弔大衛˙佈雷奈德的墳墓，這墓是
在他所心愛的美麗的傑魯夏˙愛德華茲小姐墳墓旁邊，他因死得早，生前沒有與她結婚。
這位年輕的傳教士對於基督事業的多少希望和多少期待，都隨著他的遺體進入
墳墓，關於他的工作，現在只留下親切的回憶和幾十個淺黑皮膚的印第安信徒。然而那
位德高望重的清聖徒約拿單˙愛德華茲曾希望大衛成為他的女婿，他把大衛一生事蹟收
集在一本小冊子裏；而這本小冊子竟插翅飛過海洋，落到劍橋大學一個學生亨利˙馬廷
（Henry Martyn）的桌上。
那位馬廷就拋棄他的學業成績、他的才華和他的機會到印度去傳教。當他從印
度的珊瑚海濱啟程回家，中途患病，於是帶病向北跋涉，遠到黑海之濱那陰鬱沉悶的托
卡特可汗，在那裏他蹲伏在園木堆下，貼著泥土來減輕高燒，終於孤獨地死
