两人交通都还方便的地段找房子住。目前初步选择union city或者Fremont，然后我可
以开车去Bart station，然后火车北上去学校，老婆可以开车或者坐公交去Standford
的shuttle站，然后坐汽车去学校。想征求了解情况的同学，帮忙分析下这个计划是否

Two of the couples live in Fremont. The wives took BART and bus to commute
to Berkeley, and the husbands drive to Stanford.
It seems parking is more convenient and much cheaper in Stanford campus than
in Berkeley campus, if you are not working in LBL and you are a postdoc
working on campus, it is hard to find a place for daily parking.
Or you can choose to live in Palo Alto or Berkeley, depending on which one
of you has more flexible working schedule and is willing to sacrifice. If
your schedule is flexible, you two can live in Palo Alto, then your wife can
cycle to Stanford (about 15 minutes), and you can drive to Berkeley. You
can avoid the traffic by leaving home late and come back late. There is 50-
60 minutes commute from Berkeley to Stanford without traffic. With traffic,
it is a nightmare. I once spent 2.5 hours for a single trip.
The living cost in Palo Alto is higher than in Berkeley, mostly due to the
rent, which is approximately $200 higher.

发帖数: 6961 | 3 我觉得从时间成本上来说，由一个人来commute比较划算。如果住在fremont的话，你坐
公共交通去berkeley单程起码一个多小时，你老婆如果想通过公共交通去stanford，单
程也需要一个多小时，如果是开车的话，加上找parking，估计都算上也需要至少50分
钟。
如果我是你，我就住Palo Alto，postdoc时间机动些，晚走晚回，错开traffic，你单
程一个小时，你老婆单程十几分钟。你用来commute的时间LD就可以用来照顾家里做饭
收拾屋子什么的，你回来也正好一起吃晚饭，大家都相对轻松些。
