听Sydney Brenner自己说,他在 woods hole的图书馆查了一阵资料,最后选了fugu;
可惜没人支持,最后新加坡支持了。。。
他们现在也做软骨鱼。

当时申请ID的时候糊里糊涂想了这么个名字,后来才知道还真有生物学意义。
我觉得你要做这个最重要的是要找到合适的物种来做,感觉挺不容易的。

我梦想着有一天可以把mouse通过one mutation at a time一步一步变成rat。
也不一定非要是mouse和rat,也可以是其他相近的物种。
这个肯定是有办法的,至少有一条路,
就是先通过devolution把mouse变成mouse和rat的last common ancester,
然后再从这个ancester通过evolution变成rat。
这条路是进化当中真正发生过的,我也最希望能够重现这样一条路,
但是也许人们永远无法知道这是怎样一条路。
做这个东西并不仅仅是要通过一个一个突变把mouse genome变成rat genome,
那样仅仅是个体力活,这个想法的精髓在于,这个漫长的过程的每一步当中的个体,
都必须有一定的selective advantage,起码不能有disadvantage,
否则就不能在自然界当中真正存在。这一条就带来了非常多的constraints。

个人认为应当从简单的细菌甚至病毒开始,直接作animal难度太大了。

但这个不是reconstruct genome,而仅仅是克隆。
另外本人比较完美主义,我希望有办法还原真正的猛犸,
而不是猛犸的核DNA加现代大象的线粒体DNA。
各位有想法能实现这个吗?

个全合成然后用venter同学的全基因组转化替代最相似的一个物种的基因组。。。不知
道成功概率多大。

从生物学本质上来说这些都是在做新的form是怎样进化出来的,但是难易还是有别的。
不过我承认,做notochord这类的比做翅膀有趣。

也是基于中医里的概念,我一直在想研究每个系统之间的相互关系,然后发现用虫子做这个多快好省。现在越来越发现,这里面大有文章,甚至连一些经典的认为是细胞内决定的生物学事件都受到其它系统的影响。
so far, we have some data about how nervous, gut and hypodermal system interact with reproductive system to control the body`s response to some kinds of stress.
