发帖数: 1290 | 14 在很多医学院，tenure 很大程度上只是一种荣誉，表示你到了那个份了。
在一些别的系，比如统计系，商学院，tenure既是荣誉，又是 job security。因为他
们本来 funding 就不多，他们的工钱大部分系里付的，靠教课挣来的。
医学院的教授很大一部分钱是由funding配的。医学院的各色professor比学生还多，大
部分人没有教学任务。这时如果没有funding，工钱会少掉很多。而且有些地方的
office 租金和水电费还要出funding出。没钱了，office都没有了。这个时候就算没人
赶，自己也不好意思待了。
纯生物系的 tenure 也许会更值钱一点。

funding
in standard school(under+grad), the newest example i hear is 60% of your
salary is from funding
Overall, academia (bio) is not worthwhile if just looking for "job security" |
