西很接近，于是和他联系，他很快回复如下：
Dear xxx，
you have a great CV and would fit well into the lab; however, you probably
couldn't be a post-doc at XXXXX as you are 5 years out from your PHD and
have essentially done to post-docs. Right now I am not sure if I could bring
you on as an associate which is a very junior faculty position. In truth I
am looking for someone like you to run my lab as I probably will end up
being the interim director of the division here. What is your visa status?
What kind of salary are we talking about? Can you write MSs and help others
in the lab?
现在的问题是1。associate 是啥职位？2。关于薪水我该如何答复？

associate 应该是指副手，, 因为他已经说了
他要升为头头了，需要找一个小老板来运行他的实验室。
这种机会，几乎是可遇不可求。我建议你赶快接受。
你的职位最有可能是Research Assistant Professor,（也有可能是research
associate），一般而言起薪在5万~6万之间。但是在我印象中，这种工作的
薪水是受系里根据你的工作经验严格控制的，并不是你或者他想给多少就给
多少的。
我建议你先口头接受这份工作，然后亲自到他实验室去面试一下，看看他为人
如何，实验室里面其他人又如何，然后再正式接受。
至于工资，你应该这么说，在你的印象中，这种工作应该在6万左右，
但是你知道这个具体数字可能是受系里控制的，所以你可以be flexible.
总之，要表现出诚意，同时表现出愿意谈判的姿势。

发帖数: 13035 | 6 research associate，就是senior postdoc。有的学校Postdoc最多phd后五年，
超过了就必须换title. 按照nih standard就知道了，六年postdoc至少也差不多

offered a title as instructor. You are really asked to be a lab manager
in a clinical research lab and you are going to deal with clinical
fellows, residents and sometimes junior clinical faculty members who do
not know much about science. The questions in the back is important: Can
you write MSs and help others in the lab? That is your job. Those guys
in the lab do need a lot of help for science and you will need to spend
significant time to train those guys to become sort of scientists. Are
you interested in this kind of job. I do agree with some of posts that
you will need to see to believe.

板要升官，没时间管理lab。所以你觉得自己有能力胜任而且没有更好的offer，尽快先
答应下来。
我认识的一朋友，当初phd没毕业就来美，然后跟了一个大老板。后来这个老板自己成立了一个research center，把自己手下的一批人马都弄成faculty了。 |
