recently heard another rising start in a very competitive field failed to
get his RO1...he is kind of coming out from no where--both his PhD and
postdoc advisor are superbull but he is not doing anything similar to theirs
...and he seems not on a good term with one big shot in the field...It is
kind of crazy with his records, he would fail to secure his R01...three NCS
in the past three years and still some very promising stuff in the pipeline
but would go nowhere if they couldn't secure funds soon...it is just so
depressing...
