Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis, in the
laboratory of Dr. Volkmar Heinrich http://www.bme.ucdavis.edu/heinrich/.
This interdisciplinary project examines molecular mechanisms of mechano-
signaling and -regulation in the context of cellular communication, focusing
on their role in cancer metastasis and innate immunity. Our custom-built “
side-view” atomic force microscope and optical tweezers (both combined with
automated micropipetting) will be used to explore interactions between
transmembrane receptors and cytoskeletal adapter proteins.
The successful applicant will play a lead role in experimental work that
includes the preparation of functionalized carrier particles, the setup and
use of custom-built force-probe instruments, and the analysis and
interpretation of single-molecule and single-cell measurements. Experience
in micro- and nano-manipulation and a quick grasp of the design and use of
cutting-edge, unique instrumentation are desired for this position.
Qualified candidates should have experience or interest in cell and
molecular biology techniques.
Please, send your resume (including contact information for 3 references) to:
