发帖数: 932 | 2 The department based T32 grant is very political and basically the
department T32 is to fund the boss and this particular project. Normally,
there is some consensus to take turns to give out to students in different
labs, or give the priority to the lab with funding difficulties. The
individual person's research accomplishment, GPA, and experience is not
taken into account very much. If you leave the lab, the proposed project is
going to change and thus your boss has a clear logic and reason to kick you
out of the T32 unfortunately. Without your boss's permission, you will not
be able to carry over. Maybe you can hold for 1-3 month because it may take
a few months for the department to do the change.
But if your boss is super nice and support your lab-switching, that is
another story. He need to email the T32 PI (normally is the department
chair) and then you can take over this T32 support.
In most cases, your boss will talk the T32 PI and ask another student or
even future student in his or her lab to take your T32.
Some NIH funding agencies allow individual T32 (you will be the PI). For
this kind of T32, you will have a strong voice to carry over but mostly
likely still need your mentor's permission.

science research里工作，就可以带着这个grant走。

我的回帖有可能只适用于我们这个州立大学，每个地方规矩也许不同。通常这个T32都
是每个实验室有自己的名额，比如你今年有学生被support，明年你的新学生就不应该
再申请了，即使申请也没有机会。比如，再大的实验室也不能有超过2个学生被support
。再比如，新建实验室的第一个学生default有个名额。通常整个grant只能support8-
10个人。每年都有换人，上上下下的。改起来也容易，chair通常都要把一碗水端平了
，毕竟是以全系的PI名义申请来的。当然，有人的地方就有江湖。老板人缘差他学生就
不容易拿到。
这个如果你老板提出换个他实验室support的人选，对于chair来讲就是程序上的事情，
通知秘书换个人好了，都不用通知NIH。除非你实验室没有其他的学生了，也没有新学
生会来。除此，我想不出有什么理由department会有什么理由不让你老板change。
你系主任说的也没有错，原则上，这个T32可以用于支持全系的任何学生。但他用一个
实验室的名额来支持另一个实验室的学生，容易引起系里的矛盾。对于接受你的PI，这
个也不是什么大的吸引，因为你等于占用了他实验室的名额，下面他实验室也不能够再
申请了。
如果你老板against你的switching lab，你多数情况带不走这个T32名额。带走了下一
年renew的时候，也很难得到支持。你要做好丢掉的准备。

我的情况一开始也没说的特别清楚，我现在是postdoc，不是学生。因为Chair当时说的
，如果我去任何reserarch相关的地方工作，这个funding都不用返还，也许他的意思是
不用返还之前用grant所发的薪水，而我是误会可以带着grant换组。可能这样理解就对
了。
