Just wondering if anyone on this board has applied a tourist visa to Japan
in states. If so, can you share your experiences.
I am flying back to Shanghai in Dec, and want to have a stop over in Tokyo.
and then fly to Shanghai.
I checked the website of Japanese Consulate in Boston. It seems one can
choose 3 month tourist visa or 15 days transit visa.
So my question is it necessary to get the visa here before my departure, or
I can just get the shore pass after I arrive Japan.

几天，本来说不用签证可以待3天，但是碰到一个变态签证官死活不让进，再想签也不

would be easy.
Just found out from another broad a while ago,a student wasn't able to get
the visa. I thought it would be easier to get visa to japan if we apply in
US.

发帖数: 3688 | 4 春节回国，返美时候到日本停留三天，办了签证,1周拿的。好像没什么复杂的东西，就
提供了申请表等它要求的资料，没有提供日本方面的邀请信担保函之类，自己做了一个
简单的行程表。因为我没有收入，后来要补了老公的身份工作资料。之前我曾经发信给
日本入国管理局询问72小时转机免签问题，回信说不能保证能入国。 |

Have two quick follow up questions.
1.Did you drop your application physically at the consulate, or you just
mailed it to the consulate.I am too lazy to drive there unless I really have
too.:(
2.How long did it take for you to get the Visa? So I can plan ahead.

t custom. easy to apply visa, but you need to prepare invitation letter and
letter of guarantee, and $29 cash for app. fee. the visa should get approved
in a week.

发帖数: 33 | 7 i prefer going to consulate directly. i don't like mailing my passport. and
the consulate officer actually will ask you question to make sure your docum
ents are enough.

发帖数: 366 | 8 Thanks a lot for your reply. I got my 3 day shore pass last time when I had
a layover in Tokyo.It was easy, but I did hear that some people were denied
for the pass at the airport, so you are right it might not be guarateed.
I also need to stay in Tokyo for over a week, so I guess I have no option
but to file an appplication at the Consultate of Japan.
Thanks for the advices.

，否则应该更加快吧。
