hearts, 5+ spades usually).
if opp bids 1 of a major, you bid 2 of the major to show the other major and
an unspecified minor.

But does that bid specify anything about what you have in that suit? | b****s 发帖数: 472 | 4 you mean the suit you cuebid? no, not at all

| c****u 发帖数: 3277 | 5 It shows both majors when the cue bid is a minor, or the other major and a
minor
when the cuebid is a major.
There are two schools here, one advocates the continueous range of strength
of both majors, at least 5-4 or 4-5. When it's red, it shows at least
an opener; when it's white, it can be weaker. The other school likes
either weak or strong, which means either less than an opener, or
a hand that has some extra, about 16 HCP or more. Either way has
some merrits. What I play now is to show a ha

so partner would usually give me another chance to bid. However, the first
school would overcall 2D here. The second school would also overcall 1S.

if things are straight, i don't use convention :)

| b***y 发帖数: 2804 | 9 Conventions are still useful, even if you don't directly use them. For
example if you overcall 1S and later shows H twice, partner knows you are in
12-15 range, since otherwise you would have bid 2D.
BTW, Michaels with 4-5 is OK sometimes, but seldom right with 5-4.
