It is amazing to see Goldman's alumni take one and another top positions at big banks these days, and now their network influences both Wall St and US government. Would anybody please explain why this happens? What did Goldman do right that helps generate so many leaders for US financial system? Thank you. | x********4 发帖数: 405 | 2 maybe this is endogenous, i.e., goldman's alumni's quality is higher on
average in the first place and they worked at goldman and then do better

just like why so many presidents graduated from harvard, yale, etc...

opportunities Goldman provides them to prepare them for future success even
after their times in Goldman, or what kind of characters or principles
Goldman "implant" into them to drive them for future success? they must have

| x********4 发帖数: 405 | 4 My point was being alumni of Goldman is endogenous, i.e., they are very good
guys in the first place and then were hired to work at Goldman and they
continue to do well after Goldman... Just like good students are admitted by
pku or tsinghua and they continue to do well after graduataion. it is hard
to say pku or tsinghua add value to them...

As John A. Thain prepares to take the reins of Merrill Lynch, he is only the latest example of a tradition borne out across Wall Street, in Washington and around the world. He is a Goldman Sachs alumnus who has reached the top elsewhere.

that it was able to attract all the best talents back then. Most of these
big wigs graduated from Goldman in 90s or early 00s, so they possibly joined
in Goldman in 80s or early 90s when it was less prominent than today. This
is why I think that Goldman must have played an important role in
cultivating them.
