What is the difference between an MFE and other degrees?
MBA: The MFE is a Master's degree in a specialized type of Finance, and an
MBA is a more general, well-rounded business degree. Courses you might
expect to take in an MBA program would be in Marketing, HR/Management,
Accounting and Finance. In the MFE program, we only cover these topics as
they relate to the specific field of Financial Engineering. Most MBA
programs do not require the high-level of math, a

to focus on that, that's the way to go.
MBA is much broader. |
w********n 发帖数: 2 | 7 it depends, mba has more flexible career path, while mfe has lower tuition
fee.
(And for stanford math finance program, they also placed students at vc/pe.)
Anyway brand name is more important, master degree major doesn't make that
much difference.

MFE gives you real skills.
MBA gives you a halo.
MFE gives you a stepstone.
The markets are full of MBAs from #500 schools to #1 school. Among all these
MBAs, 90% did not get a good job.
MFE is only about 20 years old. Historically, they produced far less gradutes

unless you want to be a back-office quant, otherwise why bother with MFE?
And if you really want to be the back-office quant, a math/stat phd will
work better.
If you want to move up, soft skills become more important, and that is what
MBA teaches you. |
d***y 发帖数: 96 | 11 This is not the choice you can make now. Get the admission first and don't
suppose you're the best candidate for top 10. The business school doesn't
work that way. Top MFE programs are very different from top MBA programs.
Any way, if you get both, I would suggest take the Ivy first, then other
tier 1 schools. Forget about MFE unless you have science/engineering
background.
