when we do financial modeling (income/balance sheet/cash flow), for the cash
flow, do we only care about the FCF? or do we need to still use the "
consolidated statement of cash flow" from the company report and do all the
projection?
i feel that the FCF can be calculated/estimated based on income and balance
sheet. what's the use of cash flow statement?
am i wrong?
also what's the best way to project the cash&cash equivalent on the balance
sheet? use historical data and ratio to sales? or some better ways?
thanks so much! would really appreciate if anyone can share some thoughts
asap... project due tomorrow :(

在cash flow statement里。预测的话company report里一般会有guidance。或者打电
话直接问吧。
Oh, didn't see it carefully. for cash&cash equivalent on the balance
sheet, I think you need to project cash flows...It's silly, if you don't
know what the company will do in the next couple of years, and even if you
know, that doesn't mean sh*t.

reconcile any conflicts or questions between the income statement and
balance sheet.
Sometimes if you just look at balance sheet and income statements, you will
not know exactly how the operationg cash flow is. E.g. some depreciation
might have been capitalized or included into SG&A rather than a single item
on income statement. How do you know? then look at CF/S.
As you can tell, projection is always projection, no best approach but
reasonable approach. You can estimate as percentage of sales, EBIT or NI. It
really depends on what the purposes of the readers.
