computational linguistics (natural language processing ) and information
retrieval these 2 courses. I'm not sure what classes should I choose. Can
anybody discuss the usefulness about these 2 courses for looking for a job ?

发帖数: 5970 | 2 for master students, it doesn't matter what classes you choose.
i recommend avoiding such classes - very few master or bachelor students i
talked to really understood what they did in their data mining or machine
learning classes, yet many told me they wanted to "work on data". there are
much more openings for pure coders... data structure is all you need to get
a job, os and network might help you do the job.
just my 2 cents

发帖数: 5970 | 3 but you can check the curricular of the coures - if one of them offers
practices on distributed data processing systems such as hadoop, it might be
useful if you want to work on such infrastructures.

发帖数: 7511 | 4 如果你对自然语言处理、自然语言理解、机器翻译这些感兴趣
就选NLP的课
如果你对信息搜索、信息提取这些感兴趣，就选IF的课
NLP要用不少概率统计和信息论的知识，但是对计算机基础知识要求不高
IF需要懂数据库和网络的基本知识
找工作的话应该都还不错
