well developed. The journey of learning petroleum is endless. Given the
upcoming demographic hurdle in oil industry and rising energy demand, more
talents will be highly needed. As a rookie engineer, i have much more to
learn. My very limited unerstanding is this:
(1) Knowing why and learning how to learn are critical.
(2) Communication skill are super important
(3) Majority of reservoir engineers have cheme or ME backgro | t****s 发帖数: 85 | 2 thanks for your sharing

general to any disciplines, for example, know-how is less important than
willingness/ability to learn and importance of communication.
There are several things I would point out:
(1) PE was a branch of ME. For example, SPE was initially one of six
branches of AIME.
(2) Majority of reservoir engineers having ChE/ME background simply because
PE is only hot after 2003 and we need time to supply. A talent shortage is
present

what do you think about seeking opportunities with very little experience in
upstream? the chances are so low in downstream,,,suffering... | b*******r 发帖数: 62 | 5 Thanks for reply. The fact that CHEME is favored in oil industry has
nothing to do with the size of PE student. As a matter of fact, i heard the
totally reserse theory of yours: few PE graduates can get into big oil since
what they learned at school can not meet the requirement of frontier work
in oil industry. Is this true? Standford is an exception because of their
commitment to both practical and fundamental research at PE department. I
am not familar with PE depart.. You might give us a h

| b*******r 发帖数: 62 | 6 1) Go to get upstream job requirement
2) Revamp your resume showing them in a parallel striking stype why
you can fit into each requirment.
3) Best chance to find upstream job is to get it through campus.
4) Most new hire i knew did not have any upstream experience.
5) thumb of rule: if you think you can get the upstream job done, you will
getone. They look for your potential instead of your experiences. \
let me know if you need more info.
