Senior Research Chemist - Inorganic Chemicals
Chemetall Foote Corporation, a well established company and producer of
lithium chemistry based products, has an immediate opening at our Kings
Mountain, North Carolina facility for a Senior Research Chemist specializing
in Inorganic Chemicals. The Kings Mountain plant has been producing
profitable products for Chemetall Foote since the 1950’s and continues to
be a strategic location for corporate, R&D and production activities of the
company. Kings Mountain, NC is located 25 minutes from the Charlotte
airport and is well situated close to both major metropolitan areas and more
rural living locations. Chemetall Foote is part of the lithium division of
Rockwood Specialties, a 3 billion dollar specialty chemical company.
The candidate’s primary focus will be to perform research and development
of new and existing inorganic materials and processes with transfer to
manufacturing and commercialization via marketing and assist in the
continued improvement and innovations of ongoing plant processes.
Summary of Major Responsibilities:
The Senior Research Chemist will actively perform applied research and
development of inorganic lithium products, new and existing, for customers
in a timely manner. Responsibilities include keeping abreast of
technological information on lithium materials for new applications as well
as potential new applications for current lithium products, assist the plant
in process improvement and innovation and solve process problems as needed,
support sales and marketing in technical inquiries and/or product samples
as requested, suggest and develop opportunities for new products and new
applications for existing products, communicate in a timely and concise
manner with management and other involved personnel on projects and updates,
which will include writing and issuing technical reports. Travel within
North America and Chile and Germany as necessary will be required.
Relationship with Other Departments:
It is the responsibility of the Senior Research Chemist to provide plant
assistance for sites in Kings Mountain, NC, Silver Peak, NV, New
Johnsonville, TN, Antofagasta, Chile and Langelsheim (Germany) as needed,
provide sales and marketing support for new and existing products,
coordinate with Sales & Marketing and Manufacturing on products and projects
, make technical presentations to management and other departments, maintain
effective communication with other departments and support management goals
and objectives.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Inorganic/Physical Chemistry with a minimum of 5 years experience
industrial experience with both process and product development in the area
of inorganic salts with an emphasis on lithium salts being beneficial.
Experience in patents and the patent process are also desirable.
Work Status - must be authorized to work in the US for any employer.
Professional Skill Requirements:
Technical know-how in inorganic synthesis and plant process development.
Effective Oral and written communication skills. Plant scale-up experience.
Ability for creative problem-solving.
Ability to develop scalable processes effectively.
Knowledge of aqueous phase chemistry.
Ability to speak Spanish (desired, not required)
