Attention, college graduates: If Chicago's hot Wrigleyville, Wicker Park or
Bucktown neighborhoods aren't for you, consider Naperville.
That is, if you don't want to live in major city. Editors at Livability.com,
which focuses on small- to mid-sized cities, released their list of the 10
best cities for new college grads, and Naperville is ranked No. 9 on its
list.
Editors at the website scoured data on such things as the number of 25- to
34-year-olds in each city, unemployment rates, apartment availability,
education levels, public transportation options and job opportunities, as
well as what areas had the after-work activities and "hip vibe" that young
adults seek.
Naperville "provides recent college grads with a blend of small-town charm
and big-city amenities." The ranking also noted the variety of industries
nearby, the low 5.5 percent unemployment rate and the fact that one-quarter
of the residences in Naperville are rentals.
"It's an ideal setting for young professionals who feel more comfortable in
a suburban environment but want quick access to the offerings of a major
metropolis," according to editors.
Other cities on the list were Cambridge, Mass., Bellevue, Wash., Austin,
Bethesda, Minneapolis, Hoboken, Ann Arbor, Fargo, and Mountain View, Calif. |
