On May 28, local time, the Miami-Dade County Circuit Court in Florida,
United States, announced that it would reach a settlement over the collapse
of an apartment building in the county last year. The accident killed 98
people. Nandu reporter learned that the total amount of the settlement
agreement will reach 1 billion US dollars.
According to previous reports from Nandu, at 1:30 a.m. local time on June 24
, an apartment building in Miami partially collapsed, and hundreds of people
were buried. After a month of search and rescue, the apartment collapse was
confirmed to have killed 98 people.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Judge Michael Heinzman, who oversees the
accident litigation, announced on May 28, local time, that the parties to
the accident lawsuit had reached a settlement agreement of more than $1
billion. "Given the loss of life and property in the disaster, this is the
best outcome," Handsman said.
Rachel Foster, a lawyer for the victims' families, said that while the
agreement allows the families of the victims to receive compensation, it
will also allow all defendants in the case, including insurance companies,
developers, investors and local government regulators, to receive
compensation. "Complete Peace". These officers will no longer be prosecuted.
Families who lost loved ones in the collapse will receive compensation
totaling about $1.02 billion. In addition, people who lost items such as
furniture in the apartment collapse will receive $96 million in compensation.
According to previous reports from Nandu, the incident building was built in
1981. Measurements between 1993 and 1999 showed it was subsiding at a rate
of 2mm per year. The researchers pointed out that the subsidence alone
should not have caused such a terrible collapse.
The lawyer who was in charge of promoting the building’s renovation project
on behalf of the residents before the accident said that seaside buildings
with such a long age are generally subject to a certain degree of corrosion
from seawater salt. This corrosion can penetrate deep into the structure and
cause the steel structure to rust.
