I personally prefer to study science. But my father is a
dedicated ethnomusicologist
who spent 50% of his time doing field work(go to all parts
of China to record
and collect folk music) and another 50% on theoretical work
and education.
What I can do is bear this in mind and enocourage you to
listen more of Chinese
music. Maybe in the future, We can have some introductions
and on-line

others right now.
The first book is his research in folk songs and a
collection of papers he wrote.
The new one is about Drums in China.
And a book about Mongolian music which is a big interest to
him.
But I don't think many people will buy his books:) It is
only famous in a small
circle of CHinese music scholars. I 'd like to have it
on-line or something.
But it is hard.
Also, he recored a large amount ot Chinese traditional music
