I listened to Busch's recording of Beethoven's violin concerto. The first
movement was played too freely for me. The soloist often gets ahead of the
orchestra for no obvious reason, and they mismatch each other even on many
downbeats. I can't stand it, although Busch demonstrated a remarkable range
of varied tones and colors throughout the movement, and stunning precision
and double stops in the brilliant cadenza (it's a cadenza I heard for the
