Mt. Elbert is the highest peak in Colorado and in the Rocky Mountains, and
second highest in the continental United States after Mount Whitney in
California. The summit elevation is 14433 feet with an elevation gain of 4650
feet from the trailhead. The most popular trail to the peak is the North
Trail, approximately 8.50 miles roundtrip. The difficulty of the trail is
