You can practically say Sayonara to Spanish. With the Chinese economy on a
seemingly unending rise, Mandarin is the second language of choice for many
mamas looking to broaden their babies' horizons. There are schools across
the county, for children as young as 18 months, and at a range of price
points. They all attempt to weave a considerable amount of Chinese culture
into their courses, too -- Ni Hao Kai-Lan ain't gonna cut it after this!
The Chinese Language School of Fairfield County has a 30-year history of
teaching Mandarin to lower Fairfield County. They offer 11 levels of study
to children as young as five. Classes are kept at or below a 15:1 student-
teacher ratio, are held at Rippowam Middle School every Sunday afternoon
from 1:30-3:30. The cost is approximately $325/semester.

I know one family that treks from Trumbull all the way to Greenwich for the
activity-based curriculum at the Chinese Language School of CT. They also
believe in the benefits of starting young, and will work with children as
young as 18 months. Busy families flock here for the flexibility too --
weekday and weekend course are available. For all of this you'll also pay
more -- between $750 and $1370 a course.

Until we started researching this story, the Chinese School of CT had a
website up and running ... but as we went to press discovered it is under
construction. We're hoping they are still offering their theme-based
Mandarin classes (Handwriting & Calligraphy, Fun Math, Music, Science),
seven days a week, and will update you when we get to the bottom of it!
