Despite the increase in a variety of "news" on cable TV channels and
on the Internet, the best measure of interest in news of consequence
still is the audience attracted by the three major TV networks.
More than 25 million of us tuned in to their prime newscasts nightly
last week, almost the same number as six months ago. But individual
