Yes, they are great. After experiencing them, you can not live without
them anymore.
We have two first generation ReplayTV units at home, life time service
included. I would say they are my best purchases for a long time.
However, I believe the future is not bright for these stand alone units.
The future is HTPC, Home Theater PC. You can do it yourself.

fans.
2) You do not need to keep up with the newest video cards all the time
unless you play games. A decent ATI is good enough.
3) THis is the real problem, but you can also use a nice remote control
and wireless keyboard/mouse.
4) why you need firewire?
