I made two wood beds (similar to the ones in domitory of univ at China), and
the total cost is about $150 including a set of tools from Walmart ($60
includingdrill/driver, saw ).
For the wood board, I bought from LOWELS.
Also I bought lots of wood screw, bolt, and coner brace from walmart.
If U R interest, I may try to post more details after Thanksgiving.
