I am making some preliminary progress regarding my new carbon frame design.
Some thoughts include:
Monocoque design
Sloping TT
ISP
1.124-1.50 Headtube
Internal cable routing
rear shifting cable through dropout
1cm taller headtube than otherwise (saves a spacer)
BB30
Asymetric chain stays
Weight aiming at 1100g (not sure if reachable)
Geometries for size 51.
Virtual TT 530mm
Virtual ST c-c 510mm
Actual ST c-c 460mm
ST diameter 34.9mm
Head tube 135mm
Chainstay 400mm
Seat angle 74 deg

你缺了一个最重要的 factor: 这车干嘛用的? Road? Aero Road? Road-Tri? Tri?
这 geometry 看起来像 pure road.

My vote:
Straight fork? Yes
Oval ISP? No
Outside clamp (not light, and ugly)? or internal mini seatpost (pretty, but
even heavier)? Internal
Aero tubing? Round tubing? Round tubing. Aero tubing looks too much like a
Cervelo wannabe.
Now the question is, what's the color for the frame, and what paint scheme??

Thanks. I think the paintjob is far far down the road. The mold is the
first step, so need very detailed drawings for that. Very detailed designs
even on the seatstay will be very important to draft up now. I am thinking
usinga shark shaped chain stays.

Yeah, trying to line up an OEM manufacturer... could be the same one that
makes the Dogmas. Or others... we shall see.
Re chainstays, I like sharks' lines. Thought it'd be nice to have some sort of incarnation of that on a bike.

If the first frame turn out well, then it could become a bigger operation.

If you look at this one, headtube including headset, it's about 158mm. It's
51.5cm c-c.

It's really not that difficult... as long as the mechanic is not overly dumb
. Ihave cut 30+ forks and 3 ISPs. Actually no failures so far. There were
2 cases I wished they were 5mm longer, but they were merely less than ideal
... I wouldn't call them failures. The rest were all OK.

的确看起来不像 158mm. 难道 traditional geometry 脑袋就是要长?
我的 51cm 山寨 Kuota 脑袋只有 120mm.

The C50 is actually sloping. 50S with 4cm of slope.

Here is an update -- After hours and hours of thinking, I have finally
settled with the following:
30.25 ISP (I don't like the monster size ones like 35/37-ish, I don't think
a thick SP makes a difference because the most load applies when out of the
saddle so SP is irrelevant then).
BB30 (seems slightly ahead of BB86 in the new standard contest, plus less
material and more ankle/chainstay clearance).
Mostly non-aero tubing.
Tall headtube as planned.
Tubing will have small amounts of curve, so no Parlee/Nago knockoffs for ya.
Asymetrical chainstays.
Probably straight fork (still debating whether to use standard straight fork
from manufacturer, because a new fork mold costs as much as my C50 -- Ouch)
.
Frame will incorporate features of 1-2 animals... still working on that.

本拉登的 geometry 还不知道。如果怕麻烦不如直接跳横大叔的 PF deal 算了,不会

I will be using T1000 and MJ60 carbon, as you find on $4K+ bikes. 98% of
the bikes coming out of China use generic carbon... That said... I may need
to consider having a generic carbon model just to be commercially viable.
Personally I believe my model will be much better than the knock off Kuota.
The issue with many of these 山寨 frames from China is, their engineers are
not engineers. NOr do they know about racing heritage and human anatomy.
My 山寨 bike (which actually is pretty, thanks to my custom paintjob) has a
51.6 toptube. The toe overlap is fucking ridiculous. I bet 95% of
engineers in these factories have never heard of the word toe overlap. They
are completely clueless (Sorry, I know it sounds really arrogant).

任何不会断的 carbon frame 应该都比那山寨 Kuota 有保障。那山寨 Kuota
基本就是个二手 mold 工厂, 把 closed/open mold N 年前的 model 搞来
改改小地方就开工了。(它很像 04-05 间的 Kredo)Who cares about the
engineering. 我选它是因为它的 geometry 至少和 Kuota 是一样的,不至
于太离谱。toe overlap 其实比我以前的 Bianchi 还像话。

I went to quite a few factories in China and it was my impression from
talking to them. Most of them have very little knowledge about bike
handling, such as trail, setoff, rake, reach, stack, etc. These are far
more important to bike fit and handling than mere seattube c-c measurement.
My Shanzhai frame is probably the most popular Shanzhai frame of 2010 (they
sold over 7500 of them), yet its engineering in terms of geometry is
horrible. Cluelessness can show in many different ways, and not necessarily
toe overlap. My goal is not to beat up on other brands/makes, but to share
my truest and most honest feelings when I went and talked to these "
engineers".

seriously, even to most cyclists, the subtlety in handling is not so obvious
. most of these things are not noticeable to the average weekend rider,
unless the bike is put to a technical course at high speed. there are very
few people in China who can afford to race on a regular basis, let along the
folks working on a cookie-cutter CAD program in Fujian.

别别别,我没上火。我知道自己花 $300 买来的是什么货色... CF 一定是
最便宜的 12K, layering 应该是胡搞的,top tube中间(mold 接缝处)
carbon 舖得跟鸡巴毛一样乱(他们会喷黑漆掩饰,但有些地方连掩饰都省了)。
中国的山寨碳车厂没有 race culture, 没有风洞,没有人做应力分析,估计
甚至没人骑自己生产的车。这种环境是不可能有真正的 design/engineering
的。别要求太高啦。
Cervelo 为了研发 R5ca, 还特别做了一台特制的 soloist team, 里头装
满了 strain gauge, 如此才能知道那里要铺几层 carbon. 这放在中国估计
会被人笑掉大牙。

Here is an update -- After hours and hours of thinking, I have finally
settled with the following:
30.25 ISP (I don't like the monster size ones like 35/37-ish, I don't think
a thick SP makes a difference because the most load applies when out of the
saddle so SP is irrelevant then).
BB30 (seems slightly ahead of BB86 in the new standard contest, plus less
material and more ankle/chainstay clearance).
Mostly non-aero tubing.
Tall headtube as planned.
Tubing will have small amounts of curve, so no Parlee/Nago knockoffs for ya.
Asymetrical chainstays.
Probably straight fork (still debating whether to use standard straight fork
from manufacturer, because a new fork mold costs as much as my C50 -- Ouch)
.
Frame will incorporate features of 1-2 animals... still working on that.

Should have the first proto frame in a couple of days/weeks.
I have opened threads on WW, DFH and Weibo. I hope you guys will enjoy it.
Ended up being a "semi-aero" bike if there is such a thing.
Also the right manufacturer was extremely hard to come by. Too many people
are willing to cut corners. Also sourcing the right fibers was a PITA as
well.
Will have pics soon. Fingers X'ed.

I will be using T1000 and MJ60 carbon, as you find on $4K+ bikes. 98% of
the bikes coming out of China use generic carbon... That said... I may need
to consider having a generic carbon model just to be commercially viable.
Personally I believe my model will be much better than the knock off Kuota.
The issue with many of these 山寨 frames from China is, their engineers are
not engineers. NOr do they know about racing heritage and human anatomy.
My 山寨 bike (which actually is pretty, thanks to my custom paintjob) has a
51.6 toptube. The toe overlap is fucking ridiculous. I bet 95% of
engineers in these factories have never heard of the word toe overlap. They
are completely clueless (Sorry, I know it sounds really arrogant).

任何不会断的 carbon frame 应该都比那山寨 Kuota 有保障。那山寨 Kuota
基本就是个二手 mold 工厂, 把 closed/open mold N 年前的 model 搞来
改改小地方就开工了。(它很像 04-05 间的 Kredo)Who cares about the
engineering. 我选它是因为它的 geometry 至少和 Kuota 是一样的,不至
于太离谱。toe overlap 其实比我以前的 Bianchi 还像话。

I went to quite a few factories in China and it was my impression from
talking to them. Most of them have very little knowledge about bike
handling, such as trail, setoff, rake, reach, stack, etc. These are far
more important to bike fit and handling than mere seattube c-c measurement.
My Shanzhai frame is probably the most popular Shanzhai frame of 2010 (they
sold over 7500 of them), yet its engineering in terms of geometry is
horrible. Cluelessness can show in many different ways, and not necessarily
toe overlap. My goal is not to beat up on other brands/makes, but to share
my truest and most honest feelings when I went and talked to these "
engineers".

seriously, even to most cyclists, the subtlety in handling is not so obvious
. most of these things are not noticeable to the average weekend rider,
unless the bike is put to a technical course at high speed. there are very
few people in China who can afford to race on a regular basis, let along the
folks working on a cookie-cutter CAD program in Fujian.

别别别,我没上火。我知道自己花 $300 买来的是什么货色... CF 一定是
最便宜的 12K, layering 应该是胡搞的,top tube中间(mold 接缝处)
carbon 舖得跟鸡巴毛一样乱(他们会喷黑漆掩饰,但有些地方连掩饰都省了)。
中国的山寨碳车厂没有 race culture, 没有风洞,没有人做应力分析,估计
甚至没人骑自己生产的车。这种环境是不可能有真正的 design/engineering
的。别要求太高啦。
Cervelo 为了研发 R5ca, 还特别做了一台特制的 soloist team, 里头装
满了 strain gauge, 如此才能知道那里要铺几层 carbon. 这放在中国估计
会被人笑掉大牙。

There you go. The regular carbon version is priced at US$1100, and HM
carbon version at $1700. Will do US$770/1100 for the Cycling Board (ID
registered before end of 2011). Regular version is around 1150g, HM version
around 900-950g. My Proto 1 was 893g.
Would be nice to get 5+ frames to make shipping more economical.
The idea is simple, China is known of making cheap crap and copying European
ideas. Any attempt to improve that image is basically fighting against the
tides. Further diluting the image and getting a free ride is the much
easier thing to do.
There are many ways to make these cheaper but I have chosen not to go there.
I can copy a Cervelo model and take 3 months to bring this to market. I
didn't. Took me a year. I can use really shitty carbon fiber and cut my
material cost by 70%. I didn't. I can use cheap decals and cut that cost
by 87% (yes you read that right). I didn't. I could also call it Falentino
and claim it's an Italian brand. I didn't.
Well, I am glad to say this bike has at least 3 new designs and advantages
over any top end frame on the market right now.
BTW, I have a sponsorship of the best team in PRC locked up and will be
shooting some promo videos, etc... Also have a feature article in a major
western cycling magazine (not bicycle:-)) coming up in a couple of months. I
got stopped by European designers at the Taipei Bike Show countless times.
I hope this effort is meaningful in the end. Of course, I need you guys to

Right now we don't have a size 62 and 63 simply because the molds are very
expensive to make and unless we sell a large number, it will be financially
risky. Even for Trek, some customers are asking about size 65 and Trek has
to tell them no. Same reason for size 50 shoes, etc. I am working on a
website but right now the ww thread has 90% of the info on specifications
and design features.
This is a proper ISP design. I have a short version seatpost and a long
version. Short version allows 20mm of adjustment and long version around
45mm.

Sounds like a 55cm will fit me best. What's the BB height and wheelbase for
a 55cm? Thinking about a SRAM Red build, compact crank (50/34), BB30. No
frills aluminum bars and stems. 15lb with pedals possible with 1600g wheels?
Any other color scheme than the one in the picture?

Working on the white one as we speak.
The picture shows 73cm saddle height right now. I normally use 72.
Can make PF30 or BSA(English).
The fit is extremely close to a 53cm traditional Colnago. Headtube is roughly 1cm taller than most brands out there, for selfish purposes. The angles are neutral to slightly stable. Reach is roughly 5-10mm shorter than most brands.

such a killer deal! too bad your sizing scheme puts me in between sizes (55
and 57). I am also not too sure about the stable steering geo you use that's
popular on many euro brands. can you explain a bit more about how they
might differ from the typical us geo (73.5 HA and neutral 56mm trail)? I
tried a bike with 72.5 HA and neutral trail before and hated it. maybe it
just takes some getting use to.

Love the frameset in white. I think I would get the HM version. I don't see
myself doing any road racing, but still like the light weight.
Just curious do you build titanium mountain frames? and carbon mountain frames?

A few words on the geometry, the current 53 is very very very close to a
53cm Colnago and Cannondale, if that helps. The 53 top tube is approx 5mm
shorter, that's it. Handling is slacker than US brands, but very standard
for European brands and actually less slack than Colnago, so still a neutral
design in my mind.
We are sponsoring KUNG RACING, pls check'em out.
I am going to run a 团购 around here, although i am still doing the math on
the pricing. Should be within 10-15% of my previous indications but need to
make sure I don't violate the pricing limitations in the sponsorship
agreement.
