the choreography for students. Back then they were finalists in most of the
comps in the west coast, in both std and latin. These days they dont have
any coach in the area and have schools to tend to, but I still think they
dance better now, because of the accumulation of experience/practice and the maturity that came with age.
also, these days there are so many russian/east european couples dominating
the comps, they ar

you are right pros do not necessarily good teachers. some pros are talented
- they could move their bodies naturally without analyzing how they move;
hence they would not be able to explain to those who want to know how to
move. in other words they easily master the technique which we need detailed
breakdown.

yeah, that's a notion annoys me a lot, I once tried out with a couple of
girls who didn't know much but insisted on 'you just lead and I will follow
what you do', but when they didn't even know what a 'fan' was it got really
disastrous

Another problem with these Russian/European teachers is, they are great
dancers but they are still struggling with expressing those delicate details
in English, sometimes it is just hard to get the idea they are trying to
describe.

but i am actually surprised that most non-native-english-speaker dancers are
not bad at their spoken english. I almost want to say, on AVERAGE, foreign
dancers' oral english skill (limited to daily conversation) could be better
than that of F1 students (excluding the younger generation such as 2004
college grads). i always believe if someone sings well, his/her language
speaking skill wouldn't be bad. But i hesitate to establish the association
between dancing skills and speaking skills.

I know what you mean, especially for people coming from the chinese teaching
system where the ability of speaking is under-emphasized, it is not a shock
that F1s don't speak that well, but let's face it: will you listen to a F1
student explain dancing technique in English? or just in general, will you
listen to a F1 student explain anything to you in English (if not in a class
/seminar/group meeting setting)? Everytime it happens to me I just start
feeling this agony of trying to stop myself fr
