I said I would work with java developers to identify the source of the
problem by runing sql profiler and perfmon

I think it really depends on different situations. Being able to run scripts
only from command-line is a must-have skill, and it works for all situation
and across verisons and different shops.
Not every shop has GUI tool. we don't have EM at this moment

In terms of managability of RDBMS software or their marketing goal at least,
it seems to be true.
But I don't think an Oracle DBA can be challenged to any less extent by less
number of issues. Some area of automation eliminates the intervention of a
DBA, but do we worry less? New features also bring new issues or point-of-
failure to worry.
RAC brings higher availability, but it requires DBA to be smarter or broader
in understanding of storage, network in addition to just database server. |

java developers.
yes Oracle/sql/mysql DBA can analyze the "waiting events" but there is no
way for DBA to know how important a "waiting events" are related to the
application...
the best source of this information is in frontend code.
I ask this question to the developers all the times. it worked every time!
