i***i 发帖数: 1632 | 1 A proposed rule that would change the process some illegal immigrants
undergo when applying for a permanent residency visa will be unveiled within
a week, U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas
told reporters during a March 15 press availability.
Press on the media player below to listen to the availability; due to
technical problems, Mayorkas' introduction was replaced on the call-in line
by piped aural wallpaper with an creepy resemblance to music. The audio file
begins shortly before Mayorkas' response to the first question asked by a
reporter physically present at the availability.
The proposed rule, which the Obama administration announced earlier this
year it would embark on, would permit some undocumented aliens to apply for
a provisional waiver putting aside the fact of their illegal presence while
still in the United States, rather having to apply for that waiver once
already out of the country. The intent is to prevent extreme hardship of U.S
. citizens in the event of prolonged separation from a spouse or child,
USCIS says.
The proposed rule should come into effect in the fourth quarter of the
calendar year, Mayorkas said.
