can say Silicon plays a very important role, but not all. Such as RFµwave
circuit, GaAs is much much more important than Si, though Si is catching up
in low frequency microwave circuit, say 2GHz. At least in my research, I have
not ever used any silicon devices from 2GHz to 40GHz.
Now for field. Silicon is not a popular media in EM field.
