TI only paid 6.5 billion, which is an awesome deal. Even paypal got sold way

TI would trim fat in overlap product lines (e.g. power management, signal
conditioning) and operating branches, consolidate fab (note TI has been
buying out fabs at huge discount in the past few years).
Moreover, a less crowded supplier chain may be able to demand higher sales
price.
For short term, it's definitely good news for semi: encouraging M&A
activities; help pricing power.
Not clear the long term effect. |

overlapping merge. People will be laid off and operations will be
streamlined meaning less engineers will be needed. It is good for the
corporations but bad for the people in them. For the long term, there is
actually a chance that margin might go up and as the company earns more
money, hiring might come back.

比我们清楚。
另外有人谣传是TI也想借次涉足太阳能，LED的power management。谣传，不只真假。
不过TI现在倒是真的没有这方面的东西。

但是TI去年宣布300mm analog fab的时候，就肯定打算好，要收购analog vendor来提
高其utilization rate了。虽然TI暂时宣布保留NSC的fab，但是这主要是稳住NSC现存的客户，长期肯定要transfer product to the new fab。
现在明显受益的是NSC的share holder。明显受害的NSC和TI部分中层管理层人员。其他
analog vendor无疑会感受到压力。
其他都还是未知之数。

诱人了
National肯定是有些好东西的，主要是值多少钱的问题吧。cash flow按目前水平
要很多年才能收回投资，那就是贵了。当然，TI就是TI，人家就牛在，未必要按
普通人的思路走。要不然，人家是业界老大呢

Since National revenue 1.4B and TI paid 6.5B, the valuation is not
unreasonably high. But National revenue has been declining for the past 10
years. And there are much better options than National, e.g. Intersil (whose
share price rises more than 15% after TI's news). |
