ABOUT THE POSITION
Applications are invited for appointments as postdoctoral fellows to join my
upcoming research lab located in the Microelectronics Research Center at
Georgia Institute of Technology. We plan to initiate a vibrant research
program that focuses on the unconventional control of light at micro- and
nanoscale, aiming at producing innovative photonic applications for optical
signal processing, routing and switching in nanocircuits, energy harvesting,
bio-imaging and bio-sensing, and more. We seek candidates with strong
experimental skills in optical characterization and/or nanofabrication, and
preferably with experience in numerical modeling of electromagnetic
structures at optical frequencies. The start date is negotiable but no
earlier than January 1, 2012. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae and
a summary of research interests to Dr. Wenshan Cai via email at caiw@
stanford.edu or w********[email protected]. Qualified candidates will be
interviewed over the phone or, when possible, in person.

ABOUT DR. CAI
Wenshan Cai received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Tsinghua University in
2000 and 2002, respectively, and his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 2008.
He is currently a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University. His
scientific research is in the area of nanophotonic materials and devices, in
which he has made major impact to the evolving field of plasmonics and
metamaterials. Dr. Cai has published ~30 papers in peer-reviewed journals,
and the total citations of his recent papers have reached over 2,000 within
the past five years. He authored the book Optical Metamaterials:
Fundamentals and Applications (Springer, 2009) which is now used as a
textbook or a major reference in many universities around the world. Dr. Cai
will join the faculty of Georgia Institute of Technology as an Associate
Professor, bypassing the usual rank of Assistant Professor. He will
officially start his new position on January 1, 2012. More details of his

Top4 Gatech associate professor! postdoc 做完直接Gatech Associate
Professor 啊。连AP都不用呢，很崇拜。
这个offer 实在太牛了. 人Berkeley， standford 的毕业生去top 5 的Gatech EE 还AP
5年呢， purdue 的毕业生直接上Associate Professor，这个太牛了，魔拜一下 。 文摘都上
的Science. 很牛阿。还是要多做东西哈。多发好的paper, 无论在什么学校。而且导师太重要
了。

是很好，但是top 4，这个太高了，他们也就是老师和学生都很多，
论平均质量，top10 差不多，4太高了。
stanford, mit, berkeley, caltech, uiuc, umich, cornell这些比gatech的ee要好，
个人观点吧。

4-10的系差距不大...anyway，人家这是个招生贴似乎，别水了，看到国人去名校任教
还是挺羡慕的，啥时轮到咱那...

各人觉得 U Mich 比Gatech, Caltech 什么的 Engineering 要稍微低一个档次, 但综合

还行。Gatech 好像只有Engineer, 没有医学院什么的， 没有Umich 这么大和专业多，各有
各的优势。Gatech 和 Caltech, 在tech 的学校里，估计紧跟MIT 之后吧。
Gatech 和 Caltech 这种top Engineering 学校很多合作的项目，差不多。EE不太清楚。
各人觉得在以上学校的Engineering School 当上Associate Professor, 不用AP,还是
很牛的。不管Gatech Caltech. 都Top10. 还是很牛的。尤其如果公立的话。
