decade has suddenly emerged as one of the most unequal countries in Asia,
surpassing countries like India and Indonesia, according to reports by

in any society, as long as anyone is given an equal OPPORTUNITY
to sucess.
As a matter of fact, if the wealth is garantteed to be
evenly distributed to every member of the society, it would
have simply eliminated any incentive for innovation, hard working,
risk taking, etc., anything that addes value and wealth to
the society.
The focus should be on fairness in terms of opportunity, not fairness
in terms of results.

穷人革富人的命。所以老朱不惜一切代价报住粮食。
让所有人饭吃，有房住（这一点看来够戗）就没大事。

I agree that evenly distributed wealth is not a good idea, but I
believe a sharp disparity in wealth will eventually lead to social
uprest in a society like China.

I wonder which Volume you read?
It is concerned with the relationship between eco growth and inequality.
Kuznets(1955) introduced his now famous hypothesis that this relaiton follows
an inverted-U shape. A number of research have been done following Kuznets.
Various explanation accounts for this phenomena. Generally speaking, three
major processes brought the outcome.
1. labor force shifts from agriculture to industry;
2. rate of population growth;
3. spread of edu.
