1， Why do middle-class restaurants in the U.S. serve such large portions of

2, Why is it acceptable in the U.S. to give your child's third grade teacher
a Christmas gift card but it would be wholly unacceptable to do that for
your university professors.
3. Why do American work so many more days per year than workers in France,

of subsidy for agricultural goods. That lowered the cost of restaurant
material significantly. Thus in the US the restaurants make money by
providing the dining service, while European restaurants provided not only
the dining service but they also acted as the retailer for food. In other
words, in the US food are so cheap that they are not the main focus of
restaurant management.

I only know a little about 3. Although strong union in Europe is probably a
more important reason. Another idea is that less work time means more
people
employed and so some people argue that you can short the work time to battle
unemployment. Politician talks about this. But most economists dismiss
this
idea. Also, US culture is more pro-individual-decision. People somehow hate
the government to regulate this. Early in 1900s, supreme court ruled an

unionized rate is lower in France than in US.
French just enjoy and care leisure. It's different attitudes of life.
Besides, European are more liberal than American, such as attitudes towards
abortion, drugs and divorce. look at Sarkozy. | c******n
