自己感觉有几个考虑，不知道如何排序或者有什么具体的建议？第四条尤其不清楚
1)继续深入看研究方向，找到更细致的兴趣。
2）看论文质量和数量和时间，找当打之年的大牛
3)看人（这个肯定要观察好，不过也是最tricky的）
4)看老师的networking, 以后毕业可能还要老师帮忙推荐，是不是这个最重要？这个具
体如何来研究？

发帖数: 2965 | 2 把所有tenure professor列出来, 扣除那些近五年内已经不做研究了的，（i.e. 没有
一篇 top 5, 或者没有5篇top field）。
把他们名字分别写在小纸团上，从楼梯上扔下去，哪个跑得最远就是哪个。记住，只能
扔一次。

发帖数: 216 | 4 I think the first thing he said was actually important.
I think two things are important: (1) the adviser has to be academically
strong. That can be easily seen from the publication list. (2) The adviser
is willing to help students. You should check the placement of the his/her
previous students. Best if you can talk to those students who are currently
working with him/her and get a sense of whether the adviser spends time with
the students.
As for adviser's network, it is always a plus, but I believe it is far less
important than the above two factors. I've seen enough big shots with wide
networks who don't care about their students at all and consequently place
students very poorly.

potential adviser as soon as possible before you dig too deep into something
. One of the adviser's roles is to help you decide whether your topic/idea
is worth pursuing. You can talk to multiple people at the same time in a
non-committal manner and that would help you get a sense which potential
adviser is more interested in what you do and thus would be more likely to
be willing to input time and effort in helping you.

发帖数: 17 | 7 说说4， 如果个人能力超强，自己单打独斗也能写论文，是可以找networking比较好的
。这样即使他没时间理你，你也不至于迷失。
如果自己觉得需要导师在科研上指导一下，那就找个愿意帮助学生的，这样会少绕很多
弯路。同时最好能做到跟networking好的那个教授认识/熟识，给他留个好印象，关键
时刻要他帮忙，一般不会拒绝的。 |

发帖数: 2965 | 8 根据个人的理性选择而找错老板的例子太多太多，因为大多数人用的是错误的模型来进
行决策。所以，相信自己还真不如相信老天。
