1. We would all like to raise student achievement and address the needs
of each student as a "whole child." But when it comes down to it, we often
have to make hard choices. If you had to choose, would you rather raise
student achievement or increase self-esteem and self-worth?

child has their own strength.As a teacher, self-esteem and self-worth means
that students believe they can do what they want to achieve. They will not

Student Achievement. The bottomline is, I am not hired to become a counselor
, and students' test scores are a direct indicator of my teaching
performance. I will easily lose my job if my class does not make AYP (
adequate yearly progress). The taxpayers don't pay me 40k a year just to
make students feel good.
It might sound harsh, but the sad reality is today many American school
students have high self-esteem and disappointing academic (and social)

我觉得楼主列举的这些问题都很不错。它们的意图很明显,就是你如何看待低收入人群
的学生亟待提高学习成绩的问题。学校为了应对NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND 政策,必须得
改变一直的教育思路,同时也得要求新老师适应这个变化。

推荐什么样的书呢,是给在职老师或者新老师看的,还是给教育系学生看的?
我看的书不是很多啊,不要拍我。

Harry Wong 的First Days of School
是我刚上岗的时候常看的。
其他我看的都是一些专业性的书,比如Differentiated Instruction, Behavior
Intervention等等。
