isn't the chip ASIC?

发帖数: 1292 | 5 以前搞这东西时候，ASIC 只要是APPLICATION SPECIFIC 的不可编程东西叫ASIC，
FPGA 之类的就不算ASIC。 看来现在又细分啦？ 你在FULCRUM 工作吗？

ASIC is configurable by writing/reading register;
FPGA/CPLD is programmable in hardware logic layer, like Verilog.

这马甲定做的时候,fulcrum microsystems还没成立呢

Ethernet chip is not asic what can it be? merchant chip does not seem
aligning with the categories?

seen their datasheet. Or else, difficult for vendors to
add features.

. 但是另一方面, arista这类的就很支持这个.还有amazon这类的客户,也在叫嚷着网络
扁平化,简单化,把intelligence移到外面,用openflow.

for many years already. But for Service Provider space,
Switch/Router vendors are still using their own in-house ASIC
or FPGA as far as I know. Are any vendors using BRCM/MVRL/Fulcrum chip sets
to build routers for Service Provider routers?

Pretty much only 3 vendors are capable of in-house ASICs, csco, jnpr & ALU
so far.
